NC in July, Part 1: Mee-Maw & Grandpa's!

We had the opportunity to visit North Carolina TWICE this month! At the beginning of the month, we went to visit Steve's parents for a few days. It was great to celebrate the 4th of July with them again this year, and the girls even walked (& scootered!) in the local Wake Forest parade this time! They were so cute and it was a fun morning enjoying the various festivities. We ended the day with some little firecracker poppers of our own and some neighbors put on a massive firework display that would rival any local fairgrounds'. I thought it was pretty cool, Maelee stuck around for some of it, and poor Lilee was scared out of her wits... All in all, it was a good day though!

During the visit, we also took a little hike around a beautiful local nature reserve where the girls were in awe of their daddy's rock skipping skills. And Maelee was in awe of Mee-Maw's cake decorating skills for our 4th of July dessert! It was pretty hot when we were there so we didn't see a lot of the neighborhood kids this time, but the girls still had a great visit.

Onto the pics!

A grandmother's touch is always preferred for hair brushing!

Picturesque spot nearby!

Happy Independence Day!

Best part about being the decorator's assistant? The licks:)

Sweet cuddles after a boo boo.

The tolerable poppers!

Impressive but a bit much for sweet Lilee!

It was a fun few days to start off the month of July!

Every parent-teacher conference I had this year for these two truly warmed my heart. Both class teachers gushed about their kindness toward others in the class and the leadership example they both were. Maelee was consistently the one her teacher would count on to help out in the classroom or help out with a new classmate, and Lilee was consistently the one her teachers would rely on to dote on any kiddo who may be having a rough day. While the selfishness, bickering, and often "wild" behavior is on full display at home, it was always so encouraging to hear that so many of the character qualities we work on and talk about at home are actually getting through to them out in the "real"(-ish) world! Very humbling and we are very grateful to God to see fruit being produced in their little hearts!!!

Now that summer break is in full swing the sibling bickering has hit an all time high so it's good to think back on those meetings for encouragement!
