Final Holiday (and non-holiday...) Fun!

The month of December ended with a fun flurry of activity with lots of sweet times with my brother, a few post-Christmas "Christmas" activities, a special daddy/daughters date to the Air and Space Museum in Dulles, and some New Year's Eve celebrating.

We escaped the Escape Room and rescued Frances!
The girls weren't so sure, but it was fun for the rest of us!

Enjoying one of the many awesome books Uncle Dan had for the girls.
This one is about the Canadian astronaut, Chris Hadfield, and his trips to the moon!

Astronaut Lilee!

One of our holiday favorites- Zoo Lights!

What Maelee looks like RED!

What our family would look like as martians!

As usual, the sloths and desert cat were favorites and Maelee loved the reptile exhibit.  The next day, we went to the National Harbor as another favorite holiday tradition.  Lilee was tickled to ride the train in the Gaylord Hotel and both girls enjoyed rides on the carousels!

At the end of the week, Steve took the girls to the Air and Space Museum in Dulles.  It was quite a memorable day for all of them as they saw a cool 3-D space movie, a real space shuttle, AND the plane my Too-Dad flew in his Navy days!

Our little story-teller working hard on her "book" during breakfast.

Movie time!

The massive shuttle!
Every time Lilee saw the astronaut above, she'd yell, "That's me!"

The F6F Hellcat that Too-dad flew!

On the 31st, we went into D.C. for the "Noon Yard's Eve" celebration at Yard's park.  There were lots of activities for the girls to enjoy with a big balloon drop at 12:00 noon.   Not surprisingly, the favorite was the face painting at the end (even though mama waited in line almost an hr while they went around to other activities!), but Lilee a little train ride in the beginning while Maelee was playing "assistant" to this plate spinner...

I don't think she minded a bit!

Happy NOON year's eve!

Modeling her decorated face in her fancy ocean dress from Aunt Kim :)

A little New Year's celebrating with friends and hot cocoa!

Then, special evening calls for special dinner treat- brupper!
Chocolate chip pancakes make into "2017" and hard-boiled egg "stars."

Not a bad way to ring in the new year :)

An early countdown video so the girls can enjoy the tradition.

Ending with some good old-fashioned pot banging!

Final end to the new year?
Another lost tooth!

2016 was a pretty good year for our family and as we look ahead to 2017, our focus continues to be bringing home child #3!  This time last year, we had just felt the confidence to pursue adoption domestically, but little did we know then how God would change those plans of ours... We are now full steam ahead to adopt from South Africa and that day can't come soon enough.  Here's hoping this time next year we will be SO much closer!!!

A Joy-FULL day!

Can't believe such a big, joyous day already feels so long ago!  The new year came fast and furious, but we are grateful for many sweet memories made over the holiday season.

We had a fun Christmas morning just the four of us at home and then spent the afternoon/evening with my folks and brother at my folk's place.  The girls opened presents galore!  They definitely enjoyed every minute and we loved all being together.

Setting the scene before the girls come downstairs-
breakfast ready, fake fire on! :)

 Here they come!

 Excited over her pogo jumper!
(although it may take some time for her to figure out!)

And a brand new two wheeled scooter!

These two were giddy from the big gifts waiting for them with bows, to the little surprises in their stockings, and every gift from then on!

Hand knitted jellyfish from Aunt Kim- so cool!

Loving playtime in their new tent from Aunt Viv!

 Aftermath!

A very merry Christmas morning with the loves of my life!

Enjoying the new car track before naptime with daddy.

Slideshow from Christmas morning:

After some downtime (which never actually included a nap- for some reason Lilee just couldn't quite settle into one! Haha), we headed over to Nana & Pop-Pop's. It was a special end to a lovely Christmas Day!

The girls enjoyed their little Christmas "mocktails" to kick things off!
Those eyes may suggest otherwise, but I swear it was just juice! :)

Settling in for the Christmas story out of our beloved Storybook Bible!

 Time for stockings!

 And the infamous "pooping reindeer."

 Lots of cheer here!

 And here :)

Smitten over the dolphin from Uncle Dan.

Lots of cool space gear to decorate their rooms!

And the big moment of the evening for Maelee...

Her first "American Girl" doll- her reaction was priceless.

Awesome video of Maelee's excitement:

It's always crazy trying to get these, and some turn out better than others, but we've got to get the timed pics of us all!

Best one I could get of both girls together- ha!

At least they were enjoying themselves!
Poor Maelee has been cursed with my inability to keep both eyes open when the camera flashes!

 Cozy in their new pjs!

What a wonderful day!  We loved having Uncle Dan home from Japan and enjoyed a delicious dinner and lots of laughs to end our Christmas celebration.  We all slept well that night!

Slideshow from Christmas Evening:

This year's obligatory "family portraits in front of the tree" were somewhat thwarted as we accidentally undecorated before we got around to taking them.  Oops.  Then there was the issue of our pesky squinting eyes... Oh well.  The pictures capture the sillyness at least!

It was a very jolly season, indeed!
